In my life, I've had a lot of opportunities and privileges other people do not. I have traveled to distant places, met many wonderful people and tasted delicious foods from many corners of the globe. Now, at 35, I am starting a new chapter. I am entering a new phase of my life. I look back at many of the mistakes I made as a child and teenager, even as a young man and I get a sense of perspective.
In writing, I found a lot of solace where personal relationships sometimes falter. Communications may be listed on my university degree, but I have a lot to learn about being a better communicator. My profession as a writer is bolstered by another duty as an individual in the education system. I've had a change of venue and of duties, a change in hours and thus a transformation of my perspectives and goals. My job might not be glamorous, indeed most days it is not, but I am proud of it and try to make each day better for the teachers and students I serve on a daily basis.
My one constant is writing but as any writer will tell you, the word on the page or screen is a fickle and mysterious shapeshifter. The writer will never master the craft any more than the sculptor, artist, programmer or musician. I am a novice with technology, far less advanced with blogging and social media than most people my age. Even so, I am willing to learn; indeed, I have to if I want to pursue my dreams.
This new blog is a continuation of an old one. It is a fresh start and a fresh slate. I have a new foundation to build upon to make something great. Of course, with a foundation one must endure the construction of the structures around them, but nothing worth doing is easy.
I have decided to make this blog a series of journals, thoughts and ideas. Many might center around my writing. Others might just be random things that come to me. I will continue my travel blog in a new space, and I am very excited to continue my adventures there.
Well, it is time to let the proverbial concrete cure. Let's get started.
